"Sign in to confirm your age" — how to bypass YouTube's age gate
YouTube has flagged the video as containing content (violence, language, mature themes) that requires the viewer to be 18+ and signed in with an account that has confirmed age.
Why this happens
- The uploader marked the video as 18+ during upload.
- YouTube's automated systems classified the content as mature.
- A community report led to the age gate being applied retroactively.
How to fix it
- 1
Sign in with a YouTube account where age has been confirmed
Your Google account profile shows your birthdate. If you're over 18 and YouTube has that data, signing in is enough.
- 2
Use the embed URL trick
Replace `youtube.com/watch?v=ID` with `youtube.com/embed/ID` — sometimes the embed pipeline doesn't enforce the age gate.
- 3
Use a downloader that handles age-restricted content with a logged-in cookie
Some downloaders (VidPickr, yt-dlp with cookies) authenticate as a logged-in user behind the scenes, lifting the age gate.
If you just want the video saved
VidPickr's server uses a logged-in YouTube cookie file when extracting age-gated content, so the video info comes back even though your local browser was challenged. From your side, paste the URL and the download proceeds.
