"Removed by uploader" — what it means and what to do
The uploader deleted the video themselves. This is different from a copyright takedown or YouTube moderation removal — the channel owner intentionally chose to take it down.
Why this happens
- The uploader replaced it with a re-edited version (most common).
- The uploader deleted it after a community backlash.
- The channel owner is cleaning up old content.
- The video was a private upload that was incorrectly made public, then taken back.
How to fix it
- 1
Search the channel for an updated version
Re-uploads after edits keep the same title; check the channel's most-recent uploads.
- 2
Check the Wayback Machine for the watch page
archive.org often has the watch page even after the video is gone. The thumbnail and comments are sometimes preserved.
- 3
Search reupload-tracking platforms
sites like reuploadhunter and yt-archive aggregate reuploads of deleted videos.
Frequently asked
Can I download a video before the uploader deletes it?
Yes — that's the entire point of YouTube downloaders. Once a video is deleted, no tool can recover it.
