YouTube cannot comment — fix the comment-blocked errors
You try to leave a comment and it disappears, fails silently, or shows "your comment couldn't be submitted". The user-side comment flow fails — different from "comments disabled for this video" (which is by the uploader).
Why this happens
- Account is new — YouTube rate-limits comments from accounts created within the last 24 hours.
- Comment got auto-flagged by YouTube's spam filter (urls, emojis, repeated text).
- You're signed into a Google account that doesn't have a YouTube channel created.
- The video is under a moderation-on-hold setting — your comment is held for review.
- Browser extension intercepting the form submission.
How to fix it
- 1
Confirm the comment didn't silently post under "held for review"
Open the video in an incognito window. If your comment is visible there, it posted (and YouTube's anti-spam isn't hiding it from other viewers). If it's invisible there but visible to you, it's held for moderator review.
- 2
Create a YouTube channel if you don't have one
Some Google accounts don't have an associated YouTube channel. Commenting requires one. youtube.com/account → "Create a new channel" → name it.
- 3
Edit out spam-flag triggers
Long URLs, repeated text, all-caps, lots of emojis, special characters — these trigger the auto-spam filter. Plain text usually posts cleanly.
- 4
Wait a few minutes between comments
Rapid commenting trips the rate limiter. 30-60 second gap between comments avoids the limit.
- 5
Try a different browser
Extensions that hook form submissions can break the comment flow without warning. Test in a clean browser.
