YouTube notifications not coming through — fix the bell
You subscribed and clicked the bell for "all notifications" on a channel — but new uploads don't notify you. Or notifications stopped working entirely. Or you only get some, not all. Notification delivery is the most fragile signal layer in YouTube.
Why this happens
- Browser permission for notifications was denied for youtube.com.
- OS-level "Do Not Disturb" is filtering them silently.
- Notification bell is set to "Personalized" (algorithm picks) instead of "All".
- Battery saver / Doze mode on Android killed background notification fetch.
- YouTube's notification delivery is genuinely flaky — they've publicly acknowledged delivery rates ~70% for "all notifications" subscribers.
How to fix it
- 1
Check bell icon settings — set to "All"
On any subscribed channel's page, click the bell icon. "Personalized" lets YouTube pick which uploads to notify you about. "All" sends notifications for every upload. Default is Personalized — needs explicit change.
- 2
Allow browser notifications for youtube.com
Chrome → lock icon next to URL → Site Settings → Notifications → Allow. Web notifications need explicit permission per site.
- 3
Disable battery saver / Doze (Android)
Settings → Battery → Battery saver → off. Or whitelist YouTube specifically: Settings → Apps → YouTube → Battery → Unrestricted. Battery saver silently kills background notification fetch.
- 4
Check OS-level notification settings
Each OS has its own filter (macOS Notification Center → YouTube → Allow Notifications, Windows Settings → Notifications, Android Settings → Notifications → YouTube). All three layers need to allow it.
- 5
Accept that YouTube notifications are unreliable
YouTube has publicly stated that notification delivery isn't 100%, even for "All" subscribers. Use the Subscriptions feed directly for guaranteed-current uploads (youtube.com/feed/subscriptions).
