YouTube recommendations got bad — fix your feed
Your YouTube homepage shows irrelevant content, content you've already watched, or content from a topic you watched once and don't care about anymore. The recommendation algorithm got stuck on a pattern and won't move on.
Why this happens
- A single video watched all the way through pushed the algorithm into a topical loop.
- Multi-account browsing — recommendations are based on a session where YOU signed into another account.
- Watch history paused — algorithm has no recent signal and reverts to generic / clickbait recommendations.
- Specific creators algorithmically penalized while others got boosted — affects your apparent feed quality.
- YouTube A/B test put you in an experimental algorithm variant.
How to fix it
- 1
Clear watch history (or specific items)
youtube.com/feed/history → Clear watch history, or click "Remove from history" on individual videos that triggered the unwanted loop. The algorithm rebuilds within a few hours of fresh viewing.
- 2
Use the "Not interested" + "Don't recommend channel" buttons
Three-dot menu on any recommended video → "Not interested" or "Don't recommend channel". These work — YouTube uses them as explicit negative signal. A few dozen rejections over a week visibly reshape the feed.
- 3
Pause watch history for a week, then resume
youtube.com/feed/history → Pause Watch History. Browse without recording. Resume after a week. Resets the recent-watch heavy weight in the algorithm.
- 4
Watch what you want to be recommended more of
The algorithm follows actual viewing. To rebuild a feed around a topic, watch ~10 videos in that topic — the feed will reflect within 24-48 hours.

Signed-out homepage shows generic trending content. If that looks fine, your account-specific algorithm has accumulated bad signals. If signed-out also looks bad, it's YouTube's algorithm broadly (rarer).
