YouTube search history empty — fix the missing query log
You search YouTube but typed-ahead suggestions don't show your past searches. Or you remember searching for something specific yesterday and can't find it in any history view.
Why this happens
- Search history was cleared (intentionally or via a Google account cleanup).
- You're browsing in incognito (history never saved).
- YouTube's "Search history" toggle is paused.
- You're signed into a different account than the one that did the searching.
- Google account-wide history pause is on (affects YouTube too).
How to fix it

Verify the active account
Profile icon top-right — confirm the account is the one that did the searches.

Resume YouTube search history
youtube.com/feed/history → "Search history" → Resume. The pause might have been on for weeks without you noticing.

Check google.com/myactivity
Google's account-wide activity log includes YouTube searches. Filter by "YouTube" + your date range. Sometimes shows what YouTube's own history page doesn't.

How long does YouTube keep search history?
Indefinitely by default, unless you've opted into auto-delete. Account settings → Data & privacy → "Auto-delete" can set a 3-month / 18-month / 36-month deletion schedule.
